LUXURY DESIGNER FENCING PANELS - THE BENEFITS: These high specification fence panels are designed not only to look good but also to last longer than standard fencing panels. Quality features include thicker framing, thicker boards, stronger corner joints, more durable fixings, pressure treated timber throughout and smooth planed timber. Standard fencing panels feature thin timber, typically 38x16mm framing and 4.5mm thick boards (3/16"). That is why the timber sizes are rarely quoted. In addition, the construction itself is crude with stapled corners, thin zinc plated staples and rough sawn timber.

These quality panels feature a 2"x2" (45x45mm) outer frame, more than double the standard framing thickness, with strong comb jointed corners. The boards are 9mm thick, around double the standard width. The boards are firmly retained by a groove in the outer frame and the fixings are all stainess steel. The timber is pressure treated fot greater durability. In addition, the boards and framing are planed timber which lasts longer. Sawn timber has a rough finish which absorbs much more water and takes longer to dry. Planed timber is smooth so water drains quicker and dries quicker.

PRESSURE TREATED TIMBER: Pressure treatment is a lifetime preservative treatment. The preservative is forced deep into the timber under pressure in a vacuum and penetrates below the surface. All other treatments apply a coat of stain to the surface of the timber only. With pressure impregnated timber, the chemicals are permanently bonded to the cell structure of the wood at a molecular level. Tanalith E is a widely used water based version so pressure treated wood is often described as tanalised. Pressure treated or tanalised wood is almost colourless except for a slight green tint caused by the copper content in the preservative. No further preservative treatment is ever needed. However, if you want a coloured finish you can paint over pressure treated or tanalised wood with normal wood preservative in any colour.
