Western Red Cedar
WESTERN RED CEDAR: Cedar is a naturally resilient timber which lasts longer than pine and other softwoods even if never treated from new. Western Red Cedar is a sustainable resource from North America. TOUGHENED GLASS: This cold frame includes toughened glass as standard. Toughened glass is the best glazing material for use in greenhouses and cold frames. It is around 6 times stronger than normal glass so it is less likely to break and when it does break toughened glass breaks into harmless small pieces. Toughened glass is heavy which helps to resist wind. PRESSURE TREATED TIMBER: Pressure treatment is a lifetime preservative treatment. The preservative is forced into the timber under pressure and penetrates below the surface, whereas all other treatments apply a coat of stain to the surface of the timber only. Pressure treatment is almost colourless except for a slight green tint caused by the copper content in the preservative. No further treatment is ever needed but if you want a coloured finish you can paint over pressure treated timber with normal wood preservative in any colour. The pressure treated base is the only part of the cold frame which is in contact with the ground.
